I just learned of Gail's passing a few days ago and am deeply saddened. She is our neighbor and we have always enjoyed when she stopped when passing the house just to chat or ask how we were doing. She had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh. She and Ken have been great neighbors since we moved here in 1992 and I will miss her driving by and blowing the horn and waving and sometimes stopping to chat. Life goes by so fast, I'm just sorry I did not get to tell her goodby and how much I enjoyed knowing her.

Oh My, I have just looked at all the photos. Aren't pictures wonderful? I have one similar to the one of Gail on top of that old car in the late 1940s. Uncle Joe was an avid photographer thank goodness. I have never seen some of these before. The one of her in the green formal I can almost remember. Auntie and Aunt Gertie were seamtresses and they made beautiful formals for Gail who was always dressed to the T for dances in high school probably at St. Joseph High School.
Thanks to everyone who posted photos. What a walk down memory lane. PS I loved Gail as a blonde too. Love to all. Happy Memorial where you will share wonderful stories and memories.

Dear Cuz Gail was a character. There was never a dull moment when she was around. She was almost like a sister to me as my mother was single for a time and Auntie & Uncle Joe included me in many of their family outings because we lived right next door (I think) in a house Papa built on Second Street. I am stretching my memory here. [Not too many around now to dispute me though].
Gail like my Mama kept that hair colored as long as they could and Gail chose that bright red that was so prominent in the Alford family genes. It fit her personality.
A special memory is when she and Ken and toddler Paul and Martha Jo too I think came to visit Jim and I when we were first married and lived in Meridian, Ms. Those pictures of walking in the woods is what we also did that day.
Gail was about 7 years older than me and we kept in contact over the years. She always called me on my birthday and it was great keeping up our family ties. I always looked forward to connecting with that drawl we southerners have. I would talk "Mississippi southern" a couple days after we talked and my kids would know I connected with a family member.
She will be greatly missed. I did get my birthday call this year though, so I feel lucky to have talked to her recently.
I am sending photos of Mark's wedding time and that one other wedding is when my son got married and this was our family table. My we were young.
Rest in peace dear cousin and enjoy the heavenly throng. Roz

I don’t know who wrote Gail’s obit, but it is a lovely original tribute to her life. Now as one of the oldest cousins in the Alford family, my memories of Gail are centered on childhood, Gail’s laughter and energy and her Mom, our “Auntie”s home where there was always good food, a loving welcome and a feeling of “comfort”. In fact, all of my Daddy’s capable and energetic sisters’ homes had that same welcoming feeling. Because of distance, Gail and I had little time to know each other as adults. After reading Gail’s enlightening obit, I mention my Alford “Aunties” because I see Cousin Gail carrying on that Alford tradition of being hard working, capable, energetic and most of all a person who brought the fun to the room. I wish our times together had been more than brief family reunions. I love knowing that she and Ken spent their years dancing! I’ll be holding close with prayers all of you family and friends who will be missing her constant presence. Suzanne in Russellville
