Reverend George C. Aston went to be with his Holy Father on January 15th, 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA, as he was surrounded by his family. He was 92 and was born on February 19th, 1928. He was a native of Meridian, MS and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA.
As a young man, he traveled to the Holy Lands. This trip lit a fire in his soul and set a course for his life to fulfill God’s will as a pastor and servant of the Lord. He dedicated 50+ years of service to his congregations throughout the South: Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS; Hattiesburg, MS; Denham Springs, LA; Monroe & West Monroe, LA; Haughton, LA, Magnolia, AK; and Amite, LA. Everyone loved “Brother George”. From his youth camp attendees who threw him in the pool each year to celebrate the end of a successful camp to the missionaries he mentored or the strangers he blessed with his kind actions and words; he was an inspiration to all lives he touched. He was a true servant for the Lord and spent his entire life dedicating it to the glory of God with his love of the scriptures and sharing the love of God with everyone he met. Psalm 91 was a favorite that he leaned on throughout his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, helpfulness, gentleness, generosity, happy disposition, and spirit of fun. To his family, he will be remembered as, “Daddy” or “Daddy George”, a funny, gentle, loving family man who led his children by example of his service to others. His grandchildren will always remember him as, “Granddaddy”, the steady, calm presence they could turn to for a kind word, encouragement, or a hug when needed…or if they needed a partner in crime for a bit of innocent mischief, like sneaking around and eating the cookie dough out of the bowl before it was baked. He never came across a dog that did not absolutely adore him and he was always willing to take a minute to give them a good ear scratch or play chase around the yard. He will also be remembered for his love of a yard work and gardening, Moon Pies with an ice cold RC Cola, Butterfinger candy bars and old western movies. And he never turned down a chance to play a competitive game of dominoes with those he loved. Even into his 90’s, he still won nearly every game.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Marie Jones Aston, and his daughter Shirley Eulee Aston Andre Golden. He is also preceded in death by his second wife, Nell Aston, as well as his parents, brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, Gregory Barr Aston and wife Theresa of Gonzales, LA; son, Barry Aston and wife Mia of Ludowici, GA; and grandchildren Rachel Marie Andre of Amite, LA; Crystal Kay Aston of West Monroe, LA and Joshua Barr Aston of West Monroe, LA.
Due to CoVid-19 restrictions and concern for the safety of all, there will be no viewing or formal indoor service. An outdoor graveside service will take place on January 22, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Serene Memorial Gardens in Moss Point, MS. If you plan to attend, it is requested that you wear a mask.
