

A native of The Bluff and resident of Gonzales, he passed away at his home Friday, May 18, 2012 at 1:35 p.m. He was 78. He would have celebrated his 79th birthday on May 22, 2012. Gerald served his country proudly in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a 1957 graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. Gerald served as Chief Deputy Assessor for Ascension Parish for 15 years, and as Assessor for 22 years, having retired in 2003. During his tenure as Assessor he served on numerous boards in the La. Assessors’ Association, including having served as Past President. One of his greatest joys was spending time at his camp at Graveyard Island in Belle River, and hunting. He was an avid hunter and had served several years as President of the Hood Creek Hunting Club. He is survived by his wife, Mary Brunson McCrory. They would have celebrated their 58th anniversary on May 21, 2012. His daughters and sons-in-law, Candaice Butler and Charles, Judge Jessie McCrory-LeBlanc and David; son and a daughter-in-law, Douglas McCrory and Rose; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gwendolyn DeArmond and George “Toot”, Shirley Evans and Dan; grandchildren, Ann Tullier, Chuck Butler, Kelli Butler, Rhett Butler, Misty McCrory, Gerald O’Neil “Bubba” McCrory, Jeremy McCrory, Trent LeBlanc, Amanda LeBlanc; great grandchildren, Hope Ramoin, Brandon Ramoin, Natalie Tullier, Lauren Butler, Champ Butler, Avery Butler, Gage Tanner, Desirai Griffin, and Addison Butler. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Stephens and Gerald M. McCrory; and grandparents, Sidney and Melanie Dupuy McCrory, Joseph and Lena Anderson Stephens. There will be a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Monday, May 21, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the funeral home Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. until services at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Dr. James Law and Rev. Michael Galea. Entombment will be in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery in Prairieville. Pallbearers will be Chuck Butler, Gerald O’Neil “Bubba” McCrory, Jeremy McCrory, Trent LeBlanc, Chad Corona, Buddy Holton, Jerry Patterson, and Beau Blades. Honorary pallbearers will be Rhett Butler, Edward Braud III, Dan Evans, and George “Toot” DeArmond. He will be missed tremendously by his family and friends.
