Helen Smiley Brown

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, she passed away December 21, 2014 at her home in Lake, La. Born in Lake, La. on March 3, 1924, she had reached the tender age of 90. She was a retired Foster Grandparent with 15 years of service. She held a lifetime membership to the Ladies’ Axillary of the V.F.W. Post 3693 and the American Legion. She was a member of Lake Martin Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home on Friday, December 26, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with service following. Services will be officiated by Bro. Kerry Ash. Interment will be in Lake Community Cemetery. Married on December 21, 1940, she is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Windom H. Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Brown Courtney and husband, Joe H. Courtney, of Lake; two granddaughters, Kelli Courtney Adams and husband, David, of Lake; Kerri Courtney Jones and husband, Greg, of Gallatin, Tenn.; great grandson, Mason Adams; two great granddaughters, Avery Jones and Morgan Adams along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Ned and Lena Kelley Smiley; her sisters Doris Smiley Nickens, Sylvia Smiley Tureau, and brother, Ellis Smiley. Pallbearers will be Leon Chauvin, Robert Nickens, Curtis Tureau, L.J. McDaniel, Blaine Smiley and Troy Edmonston. Honorary pallbearer is Mason Adams.
