

James Bret Argrave “Bret” passed away in his home on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the age of 64. He was a native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Gonzales, LA. Bret was a generous, kind, thoughtful, and compassionate man. His charming personality and wonderful sense of humor made him the type of personality that everyone wanted to be around. Bret was an animal lover. He was grateful for and treasured, a variety of animal species including: monkeys, lions, and llamas, as well as ordinary farm animals. Bret was an avid and gifted horseman. His passion led him to earning three world championship titles before being forced to retire due to physical restrictions. He is survived by his sister, Vikki Argrave, Lafayette and brother, Truvy Argrave, Jr., St. Amant. He is preceded in death by his parents, Truvy “T-Boy” and Faye Penalber Argrave; paternal grandparents, A.V. “Toby” and Beatrice James Argrave and maternal grandparents, Richard and Celestine Fontenot Penalber. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Ourso Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Cornerview Cemetery. Those who are honored to serve as pallbearers are: Bobby Argrave, Vincent Argrave, Thomas Dupont, Terry “Poncho” Heintz, Alan Schexnayder, and Toby Broussard. Honorary pallbearers included: A.C. Roux III, Todd Penalber, Steven Stuart. We would like to thank our family, friends, and friends who are like family for their help, guidance, love, support, and generosity.
