

John was a devoted husband, father, son, and friend. He was known for his integrity, strong values, and quick wit. He lived his life with honesty and believed deeply in keeping his word, a principle he demonstrated daily through his actions and relationships.
A native of Denham Springs, Louisiana, John attended Denham Springs through the 10th grade and later graduated from Gonzales High School, class of 1958. He proudly served in the United States Navy and was honored with a Letter of Honor from Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal in recognition of his service.
John later resided in Galvez, Louisiana. Throughout his working life, he was employed by Sunbeam Bread, Ethyl Corporation—where he earned recognition for perfect attendance—and the United States Postal Service in Gonzales.
John had a lifelong passion for bowling. His legacy was honored on the Wall of Fame at Circle Bowl, recognizing a notable game achievement. He was named Bowler of the Week while bowling in the Ethyl Corp league, alongside his lifelong friends Bubba and Margaret Wascom. He also competed in numerous tournaments locally and nationally, earning many awards and cash prizes. He also bowled at Plank Bowl and Don Carter’s as well.
John is survived by his children: Cheryl Jones-Fontenot and husband Troy; Robbie Jones and wife Alisa; Paul Jones and wife Blanche (Chris) and Tom Jones and wife Laura; sister, Barbara Jones Stout and his beloved niece, Melody Stout Lewis; best friend and cousin, Donald Jones and wife Micheal and his beloved friend who became family, Simone Keller.
Thirteen grandchildren, Larson Fontenot and wife Victoria, McKade and Jaron Fontenot, Britnee Straub and husband Darren, Ashley, Jonathan and Shelbi Jones, Sydni Minvielle and husband Micheal, Elsie and Michael Hanshew, Toxie Bercegeay and wife Taylor and Michael and Kayla Bercegeay.
Thirteen great grandchildren, Emily and Torin Fontenot, Lukas and Lanie Straub, Marly Roddy, Roman Landaiche, Noah Minvielle, Jeremiah Bercegeay, Eric and A’aliyah Scott.
He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife, Charlotte Cannon Jones; maternal grandparents, John W. Pearson and Alice Wascom Pearson; paternal grandparents, John Wesley Jones and Cora Evans Jones and sister Doris Jones Cavin and her husband Rodney Cavin.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Harvest Manor of Denham Springs, LA and Hospice with Life Source for the excellent and compassionate care y’all gave to our dad.
A committal service will be held on Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Louisiana National Cemetery, 303 W. Mount Pleasant Rd, Zachary, LA, 70807.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Folds of Honor (https://foldsofhonor.org/), a nonprofit organization that provides life-changing educational scholarships for the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military service members and first responders.
