The gates of heaven opened and welcomed Brent Stanley on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. Brent was born on October 3, 1953 in Independence, Louisiana to Garnet Monceret Alsbrooks and Jerry Stanley. One of seven children, Brent grew up with a love of family. There were two children from his first marriage, and he inherited two children from his second marriage, but in his heart they were all very much his and loved. He married his soul mate, Cathy Bonaventure Stanley, on July 9, 1988. Brent was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who has forever left an indelible mark on the hearts and lives of all who knew him. He was gregarious, loud, funny, and a true joy to be around.
Brent graduated from Glen Oaks High School, Baton Rouge, LA, in 1973. Brent’s career started as a Boilermaker with Local 582 in Baton Rouge in 1974. In 1984 he opened a restaurant and bar, “Brent’s Cypress Cove” in Baton Rouge. He closed the restaurant in early 1985 due to a poor economy and location. In 1985 he made the career move to the field of demolition and took a position with Means Industries in Baton Rouge. He then went to work for Olshan Demolishing in 1991 and as fate would have it, he was hired by Pat Callahan. As Pat moved through the world of demolition, he took Brent with him to Integrated Waste Special Services in 1993. In 1994, Pat Callahan started his own business, Dismantling Environmental Management Company (DEMCO), and Brent was one of his first twenty employees. Brent worked his way up the ranks to the position of Project Manager. His prominent demolition career included a five-year project at DuPont in Waynesboro, Virginia; removal of a molecular atom accelerator at Princeton University; decommissioning of a nuclear lab at Los Alamos; and removal of the Winston Tower at Daytona Speedway. Although Brent retired in 2016 after working for NorthStar for a couple of years, his loyalty, dedication and love always belonged to DEMCO and the Callahans.
Brent and Cathy went on a boat ride with friends Gene and Sandy Walker on the July 4th weekend of 2005, and he suddenly decided that he had to buy a house on the river. That’s when Bayou Terrace Drive on the Diversion Canal became “home”. He so enjoyed living on the river as well as the many friendships that were formed with so many of the neighbors. Brent was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with some of the neighbors.
Brent grew up loving Jesus. In the 1990’s the family attended Hosanna First Assembly in Baton Rouge. He was blessed to have been able to go on a missions trip to Nicaragua with about a dozen other men from Hosanna to assist with building a church there. After moving to St. Amant, he and Cathy became members of Graceworks Church in Prairieville, LA, led by Pastor Bill Pruitt. Brent loved his church family very much and even enjoyed golfing with a few church members.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Christopher Stanley and Jordan Soileau; parents Garnet Alsbrooks and Jerry Stanley; brothers Dale, Denny, Mark, and Timmy Stanley. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Stanley; daughters April Stanley Rittenhouse, Ashley Stanley Kellett, and Bonnie Soileau Bastin; sister Brenda Mikel and brother Ed Stanley; sister-in-law’s Bonnie Stanley, Lisa Stanley, and Annette Lockhart. Of great importance, he is survived by many grandchildren: Brianna and Blake Jones; Matthew, Joshua, Anna Grace, and Caleb Germany; Kimber and Kade Robertson; Peyton and Piper Kellett; Isabella, Josiah, and Emma Pettyjohn; and Ava Soileau. He inherited the following grandchildren: Brandi Feinberg and Matthew Lewis; Vivienne and Phoebe Bastin; and Bryce Rittenhouse.
Visitation will be held at Graceworks Church, 16131 Hwy 44, Prairieville, LA, on Saturday, November 23rd, beginning at 9:00 am. Memorial Service will follow at 10:30 am. Reception to be held afterward at the church. Brent's favorite color was orange, please consider wearing orange to the memorial. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Graceworks Church – Missions Fund or your favorite charity.
