

Joseph “Dewey” Gregoire, age 86, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. He was the husband of Gloria Vicknair Gregoire for 63 years. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, David Randall and Jerri Foster Gregoire of Independence, Doug Gregoire of Prairieville, Gerald Clyde and JoAnn Ward Gregoire, of Chalmette, Eric John Gregoire of Slidell; step granddaughter, Tiffany Foster Petersen of Independence; granddaughter, Mary Ann Gregoire Russo of Santa Rosa, CA, Taryn Gregoire Ray of Waveland, MS, Dr. Amanda Rae Gregoire of Chalmette, Lauren Anne Gregoire of Freeport, FL; grandson, Derick John Gregoire of Slidell; great granddaughters, Shelby Magnolia Russo; Hannah Rose Russo of Santa Rosa, CA, Ava Alexa Minyard of Freeport, FL; great grandson, Mark Ray Jr. of Waveland, MS; step great grandson, Charlie Petersen of Independence; brothers and a sister-in-law, Joseph Lee “Joe” Gregoire, Reno and Irene Lee Gregoire; sisters and a brother-in-law, Viola Gregoire and Rudolph Hoover, Elmire Gregoire Hammerling; sisters-in-law, Mercy Babin and Bertha Vicknair; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Olivia Gregoire Vicknair; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Joseph and Emma Picou Gregoire; sons, Glenn Joseph Gregoire and Patrick Wayne Gregoire; sisters, Ella Gregoire Hurlbert, Lily Gregoire Marchand, Betty Gregoire Smith; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Hulbert, Dalton Marchand, Jessie Smith, Amaluce Vicknair, Eldred Babin, Placide Tureau, Edwin White; daughters-in-law, Julie Johnson Gregoire and Jeannie Tonglet Gregoire; and sisters-in-law, Jaunita Langdon Gregoire, Velma V. Tureau, Nita V. White. Dewey was a native of Head of Island, a resident of Chalmette, for 56 years pre-Hurricane Katrina, and a resident of Prairieville for the last 7 years. He served in the US Army during WWII and was a retired General Foreman of Kaiser Aluminum Corp. at Chalmette Works after 35 years of service. Dewey also served as an elected Constable for over 25 years in Chalmette, and also served on the State of Louisiana Justices of the Peace and Constables Association Board. He was a charter member and past president of the Chalmette Lions Club and a long time usher at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Chalmette. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Prairieville, Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Eric Gyan, celebrant. Entombment will be in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery in Prairieville, behind St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
