A native of River Ridge and resident of Gonzales, she passed away on August 29, 2010, at age 55. She was a graduate of Chapelle High School, Southeastern University, and a member of Alpha Sigma Tau and Who’s Who of America. She also coached softball for the city Gonzales. She is survived by husband of 32 years, David E. Downey; sons and a daughter-in-law, David W. and Ashley Downey, and Matthew Downey; daughter, Michelle Downey and fiancé, Bradley Messina Jr.; father, Emile R. Bauer Jr.; sister, Beverly Denton; brother and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Kristine Bauer; and grandson, Christian Stevens. She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher R. Downey; mother, Alice Hollier Bauer; and brother-in-law, Roger Denton. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at St. Theresa Catholic Church on Wednesday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev.
