With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Kelsey Louise Watson on August 9, 2025. She left this world far too soon at the age of 34 after a courageous 11-year battle with Huntington’s Disease.
Born on May 27, 1991, Kelsey grew up in Prairieville, Louisiana. She is loved and remembered by her devoted parents – Paula and Jim Scarton, sisters Jessica (Blake), Abigail (Jared), and Katherine, and grandfather Henry Scarton. She was the proud aunt to Leah, Adalyn, Henry, and Levi, who were a constant source of joy in her life. She was also blessed to have many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, Craig S. Watson, Jr., grandparents Josephine and Howard Brown, Eileen Scarton, Patricia Montgomery and Craig Watson, Sr, and special friend Morgan Hebert.
Kelsey attended LSU and graduated from Southeastern University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She was a 2009 graduate of Dutchtown High where she was a member of Dutchtown Sound Marching band and color guard. Family and friends were the center of Kelsey’s world. Buying gifts and making cards for them brought her great joy and she loved spoiling her nieces and nephews.
Kelsey worshipped at Lake Martin Baptist Church, where she helped with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She truly possessed love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. She never saw herself as disabled, was always positive, and lived life to the fullest each day. Her courage and resilience touched many family, friends, caregivers, and medical professionals who were lucky enough to have known her. There were no strangers to Kelsey; she had the ability to make friends immediately; her life was a lesson in hope and love.
Special thanks for the loving care provided by Dr. Sarah Perez, Dr. Victor Sung, Dr. Robert Branstetter, Jackie Pham, Amedisys Home Health & Hospice, Clarity at the Crossing Hospice, and her devoted friend and caregiver Stephanie Paulino.
Visitation will be August 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. with service at 11:30 a.m. both at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 17510 Monitor Ave., Baton Rouge. Interment will follow the service at Serenity Oaks Memorial Park, 15304 Hwy. 73, Prairieville.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Kelsey’s memory to Huntington’s Disease Society of America.
