"The Lord is my light and my salvation.” (Psalm 27:1) – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Lynn Sharon Lambert Alexander at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant, La., celebrated by Very Reverend Tom Ranzino and concelebrated by Reverend Joshua Johnson. A steadfast and beloved matriarch, Lynn was 76 when she passed away peacefully at her home at 10:19 p.m. on September 4, surrounded by her family, after a graceful three-year battle with cancer. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and burial will follow the Mass at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Born March 10, 1947, Lynn grew up in Sorrento next to her family’s business, Lambert’s Restaurant, and graduated from St. Amant High School in 1964. A loving and devoted wife to her high school sweetheart and husband of 58 years, Murray John Alexander, she took great joy in being a full-time mama while their children were young and in making their homestead in St. Amant a warm and beautiful haven to all who entered, gracing it with her spectacular cooking, Master Gardening skills, artful quilting, and, above all, her steadfast Catholic faith. Lynn served as scripture study leader, catechist, organist, pianist, and member of Catholic Daughters (Court of St. Rose de Lima) at St. Anne’s and Holy Rosary. An avid genealogist, she researched, visited, and tended family graves throughout the south. Lynn co-owned Murray’s and Alexander’s Markets with her husband, and she earned advanced degrees in education at LSU, where she previously served as adjunct faculty mentoring student teachers. She also taught at St. Theresa Catholic School and St. Amant High, directing high school plays and coaching debate teams.
In addition to her husband, Lynn is survived by her four children—Lathan Alexander and wife Kelly, Andrea Alexander, Ryan Alexander and wife Monica, and Reid Alexander and wife Jessica; eleven grandchildren—Rachel Alexander Cambre and husband Branson, Jordan Jeansonne, Alise Alexander Ruch and husband Alex, Brayden Alexander, Ethan Alexander, Braley Alexander, Tristan Alexander, Drue Alexander, Sage Alexander, Blake Alexander, and Matilyn Alexander; two great-grandchildren—Jenna Jeansonne and Lucy Ruch; siblings—Gregory Lambert and Tammy Lambert Schexnaydre and husband Donald; and nieces—Lindsay Schexnaydre Savoy and husband Chase, and Natalie Schexnaydre Duhon and husband Spencer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emile and Cecile Lambert.
