

A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, she passed away peacefully at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in Gonzales. She was 90, a native of Hungarian Settlement and a resident of Gonzales. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Thursday, March 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, on Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rubin Reynolds, celebrant. She will be laid to rest in Hope Haven Garden of Memory, Prairieville. Survived by her daughters, Pat Catalano and husband Philip, of Gonzales, and Catherine Navarre and husband Rene, of Slidell; son, Steve Vassil and wife Linda, of Prairieville; sister, Margaret Blahut, Albany; nine grandchildren, Regina Landreneau, Phyllis Sylvester, Shannon Navarre, Mike Catalano, Philip Catalano, Sabrina Leftwich, Tina Johnson, Brian Vassil and Jason Vassil; 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her first husband, Steve Vassil; second husband, Rodrick Babin; eight brothers and sisters; and parents, John and Helen Zoller. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, and Granny Hugs, which makes quilts for the children of St. Jude. Very special thanks to Amelia Babin, Annette Lanoux, Joyce Lambert and Dr. Halina for all their help and support the past three months.
