

A native of Dutchtown and resident of Prairieville, she passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the age of 76. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family who all adored her. Mary Jane believed in family, helping others, and everything she did was with lots of passion. She was a loving and devoted wife and her greatest pleasures came with raising her four children and watching her grandchildren grow. Mary Jane was an avid sports fan and enjoyed spending time cooking for family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, James W. “Jimmy” Brown Sr.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Viann and Tom Bentley, Kittye and Benny DeLaune, and Mickey and David Templet; son and daughter-in-law, James “Jim” Jr. and Kathy Brown; two sisters, Lura Mae White and Ruth Nell Babin; eight grandchildren, Chrisy Shaules, Megan, Brady, and Aaron DeLaune, Jamie and David Templet Jr., and Lacie and James Brown III; and two great grandchildren, Calie and Brennan Shaules. Preceded in death by her parents, Ethel LeBlanc Smith and Joseph “Peter” Smith Sr.; and a brother, Joseph “Brady” Smith Jr. A visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Eric Gyan. Burial will follow in Oak Lane Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Buster Brown, Mike Brown, John LeBlanc, Shannon Shaules, James Brown III, Aaron DeLaune, Brady DeLaune, and David Templet Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be T.J.
