

Melissa Amelia "M.A." Lyons, 98, of Galvez LA passed away Friday afternoon August 17, 2012 peacefully of natural causes at the residence of her late Nephew Ray Stout in Gonzales LA where she resided for the past several years. She was born on July 26, 1914 and was a native of Galvez LA.
Visitation at St. Mark Catholic Church in Gonzales, Louisiana beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 preceding religious services at 11 a.m. by Father Rubin Reynolds. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Galvez, LA.
She is survived by four nieces and one nephew, Jane Brignac Brown of Mandeville, LA, Elaine Brignac Seghers of Hot Springs, AR, Melissa Hood Duhe of Galvez, LA, and Henry V. Brignac Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA.
Preceded in death by parents Louis Benjamin Lyons and Melissa Dencausse Lyons of Galvez, LA; five sisters, Edith E. Lyons of Baton Rouge, LA, Vivian T. Lyons Stout Landry of Gonzales, LA, Marie L. Lyons Brignac of French Settlement, LA, Margery J. Lyons Young of Panama City, FL, Regina J. Lyons Hood of Galvez, LA; and nephews Raymond L. Stout of Gonzales, LA and Williams (Billy) Ricks of Panama City, FL.
M.A retired from the Baton Rouge Exxon Refinery after a long and rewarding administrative career that began in the days when it was the Humble Oil Refinery. In retirement she was an energetic member and officer of the Exxon Annuitants' association. She immensely enjoyed history and genealogical research and was a former member and officer of the East Ascension Genealogical & Historical Society. She served as the Society's newsletter editor for numerous years.
