

Patrick W. Bell, Sr., a native of Alexandria and resident of Gonzales, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age 68. Bell worked for Uniroyal Chemical in Geismar for 32 years before retiring. He also served as a Sergeant-at-Arms for the Louisiana Senate. He was a former Chairman of the Ascension Parish Council. He served as past president of Amite River Basin Commission and was a commissioned deputy with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office in the course of his work as Court Bailiff for the 23rd Judicial District. Bell served as a founding board member of River Parishes Community College, the River Regions Cancer Screening Board and the Geismar Complex Federal Credit Union and current commissioner of the Pontchartrain Levee District. Pat was a graduate from Menard Memorial Catholic High School and attended St. Thomas University and LSU. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Pat coached youth football and baseball for many years. Pat was an advocate for community service and work. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sheily Duplessis Bell; son, Patrick W. Bell, Jr. and Brady Bell and wife, Ashley; grandchildren, Hagan Blair, Brynnan Claire, Camrynn Camille, Brady Patrick, Katherine Ann; sisters, Colleen Still and husband, Garry, Sharon Aaron and husband Jessie, Becky Morgan and husband, Bill; brother, Danny Bell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Scallan Bell; father, A.W. "Red" Bell and stepmother, Betty Jacobson Bell. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Visitation will resume on Monday, June 27, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 9:30 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Serenity Oaks Cemetery. Red Loupe, Terrell Bourgeois, Walter Leftwich, Steve Hotard, Paul Duplessis, David Duplessis, Jessie Aaron, and Chris Aaron will serve as pallbearers.
