Paul Emery Miller, 78, a resident of Prairieville and a native of Hobart, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many who lived his life helping others. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Highway, Gonzales, on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 La. 73, Prairieville, on Monday, Oct. 25, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Eric Gyan. Interment in Prairieville Cemetery. Paul graduated from Dutchtown High School, finished Spencer Business College and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Following his tour of duty, he worked for Copolymer Corp. in Baton Rouge. He joined BASF Corp. in Geismar in 1957 as an instrument technician, progressing to instrument supervisor and later superintendent of instrument and electric shops. After a 34-year career with BASF, he retired in 1991, and devoted his time to raising beef cattle on Miller Farms in Prairieville and hay baling for himself and his neighbors. His leisure time was spent pursuing his interests in gardening, cooking and entertaining family and friends. Others considered themselves fortunate when he gifted them with beef, garden vegetables, the famous Elliott pecans and his culinary delights. He was affiliated with St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for most of his life and served as a solicitor for a Church Capital Campaign and as a Eucharistic minister for almost 20 years. Survived by his wife, Harriet Babin Miller; son, Brian Miller and his wife, Joni, of Baton Rouge; daughter, Renee Rivault and her husband, Kevin, of Lafayette; a granddaughter, Amanda Rivault; and five grandsons, Adam Rivault, Austin Rivault, Dylan Miller, Jason Brouillette and his wife, Courtney, of Nashville, Tenn., and Dusty Brouillette, stationed in Iraq; a great-grandson, Patrick Brouillette; a sister, Norma Martin, of Baton Rouge; and a brother, T.A. Miller Jr. and his wife, Bernadine, of Baton Rouge. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. Preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Koenig Miller; and his parents, T.A. and Rose Landry Miller. Pallbearers will be Howard Betz, Billy Freeman, Carey Hawkins, Gregg Martin, Wayne Martin, Dylan Miller, Adam Rivault and Austin Rivault. Honorary pallbearers are John Barry, Jim Burleigh, Shelby Robert and W.D. Simmons.
