

A loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Purvis passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Southeast Louisiana War Veteran's Home in Reserve. He was a native of Dutchtown and longtime resident of Baton Rouge. He served his country as Quartermaster Third Class in the U.S. Navy and was discharged May 17, 1946. He later went on to start United Steel Company where he served as owner/president. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Braud, Jan Vinci, and Kathy Braud; son, Randy Braud and wife, Jeannette; sisters, Dane Hawkins and Faye Bercegeay, who both looked after him and took great care of him in his later years; former spouse, Joyce Braud; granddaughters, Allison Joffrion, Amy Joffrion, Christine Parks, Marissa Steely, Dustin Hunter, and Halie Braud; grandson, Jeremy Braud; and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special niece that was his angel here on Earth, Becky Connor; and the Lopez family who cared and loved him as one of their own. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Bagley; brothers, Pershing and Bertman Braud; and his longtime companion, Malvina Lopez. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 5pm to 9pm, with a funeral service at 7pm. A burial of his ashes will take place in Louisiana National Cemetery at a later date.
