God's Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best." The family of Raferd Brignac regretfully announces his passing at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012, at his home in St. Amant. He was 82, born November 27, 1929, and was a native of French Settlement. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a longtime member of the Pipefitters/ Steamfitters Local 198. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Wednesday, July 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at New River Baptist Church, St. Amant, on Thursday, July 26, from 10 a.m. until service at noon, conducted by Brother Wayne Talley. Burial to follow. Raferd is survived by a son and daughter- in-law, Reggie and Denise Piccoli Braud, of Newtown Square, Pa.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura Nelwyn "Nell" and Adley Poché, and Phyllis and Jimmy Templet, all of St. Amant; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and two sisters, Janice Jones and Bertha Vicknair. He also had a very good friend, Miller Shamburger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ursula Glascock Brignac; parents, Ernest and Elmire Deslatte Brignac; two brothers, Roy Brignac and Amedee Brignac; and two sisters, Doris Lambert and Flossie Keller. Pallbearers will be Buddy Poché, Nicholas Poché, Hayden Wells, Landon Wells, Jeremy Braud and Rhett Cruthirds. Honorary pallbearer is Mitzi Cockerham.
