

A resident of Prairieville, he passed away at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at his home. He was 85 and a former longtime resident of Baton Rouge where he owned Cecil's Auto Repair until his retirement. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the PT boat tender USS Willoughby-AGP 9 in the South Pacific. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and after retiring, developed a passion for gardening from which he took great pleasure in sharing fresh produce with family and friends. He is survived by the love of his life, Ella Rene Hunter Parrish, his wife of 62 years; son, Gary Cecil "Poncho" Parrish; daughter-in-law, Trudy Parrish; grandchildren, Tony Alan Phillips, Gary Cecil Parrish Jr., Daniel Casey Parrish and wife Nikki, and Samuel Coy Parrish; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Koree, Elizabeth, Kaci-Raè, Abbey and Johnny Ray; sisters, Margaret Berthelot, Jeanette Bryant, Louise Fletcher and Retha Giroir. Preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Samuel Grady Parrish; daughter, Diane Parrish Singer; brothers, Willie and Pat Parrish; and sister, Katherine Bourgeois. Pallbearers will be Tony Phillips, Gary Parrish Jr., Casey Parrish, Sam Parrish, Jimmie Ray Hunter Jr. and John M. Hunter Jr. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Billy Perry. Interment to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge. Heartfelt thanks to nurse Misty Breaux of Hospice Compassus for her loving care and compassion during this difficult time.
