

A native of New Orleans, raised in Ponchatoula and a resident of Prairieville, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Prairieville at the age of 56. He was a retired Squad IV Patrol Lieutenant with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office with 32 years of service and a former Army National Guardsman holding the rank of First Lieutenant. A visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 9:00 am until religious services at 11:30 am conducted by Rev. Ken Spivey. Interment will follow at Oak Lane Memorial Park in Prairieville, La. He is survived by his wife Sandra "Sandy" G. Vitter of Prairieville, 1 son and daughter-in-law: Petty Officer First Class Andrew Vitter, U. S. Navy and spouse Liesl Smith Vitter, 3 sisters: Ella Sullivan, Karen Landry and Barbara Vitter, 2 brothers: Billy Vitter and Chris Vitter, mother-in-law: Martha Annette Gray of Prairieville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents: Oscar P., Jr. and Shirley Burns Vitter. Pallbearers will Jeff Griffin, John Griffin, Jared Mullins, Lance Hidalgo, Marc Dufren, Richard Boe, Clint Boe and Jeremy Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. Sam was a member of the Coastal Conservation Association and also Tigeritaville Tailgating member for L.S.U. and an avid L.S.U. football fan.
