Sheila Marie “Tootie” Melancon passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 12:54 p.m. at the age of 72. She was a native of Natchez, MS and a resident of Gonzales, LA. She was a graduate from East Ascension High School. She was a retiree from Syngenta. She enjoyed cooking. She loved her godchild’s jambalaya. She also enjoyed watching LSU sports and spending time with family as well as spending time with her numerous lifelong friends. She is survived by her son, Brian Melancon and daughter-in-law, Heather; grandchildren, Keller Grant Melancon, Kyleigh H. Mall, Karoline E. White, and Kaitlyn Anderson; great grandchildren, Rylee L. May and Anne Marie Anderson; and dog, Dixie. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerard B. “Jeep” Melancon; parents, Archie Justice Jones and Maudrey Braud Jones; and sister, Sharon Ann Decoteau. Family and friends are invited to attend an evening Visitation on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Ourso Funeral Home, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at St. Mark Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Hope Haven Cemetery in Prairieville. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Chad Decoteau, Chet Decoteau, Craig Decoteau, Jarrod Decoteau, Dustin Decoteau, Zachary James Wright and Rick Michel. Those recognized as honorary pallbearers are Kermit Braud, Jr., Darrel Braud, Howard “Myles” George Wright III and Keller Grant Melancon. Although flowers are appreciated, donations can be made to M.D. Anderson and/or Society of the Little Flower. A special thank you from the family goes to the Gonzales Fire Department and EMS, along with the St. Elizabeth Emergency Room doctors and staff.
