

Walter Lee Leftwich, born December 12, 1935 went home to Jesus on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 4:02 at The Crossing, Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge after a battle with gastro intestinal complications. He was 86, born in Alma, Arkansas and a native of Prairieville, LA. He met the love of his life Bobbie Jean Broussard of Prairieville downtown Baton Rouge on 3rd Street at Leggets Drug Store. They were married on August 22, 1959 for 61 years. He was employed at Kinny Shoe Store when he moved from Arkansas. Then he sold Bibles, State National Life Insurance, retired and worked again at Oak Lane Memorial Park.
Walt is survived by all his (Babies) nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Walt was a lifetime member of EASL, Ascension Bass Club, Wildlife Federation, American Legion of Gonzales, Quad A and his favorite Prairieville Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of LA State Fireman Association. He was President of the board of commissioners for the Fire Department. He loved fishing, sports, cutting grass and having coffee with his dear friends.
Walt is preceded in death by his wife Bobbie, his parents Clarence and Maggie (McIlvaine) Leftwich, 3 brothers, 1 sister, in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Visitation on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 9AM till 11AM at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales. There will be a private family graveside celebration with Deacon Leon Murphy following the visitation. Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Alvin Broussard, Bryce Broussard, Chase Broussard, Jonathan Desporte, Teddy Desporte, Michael Hauck, Brady Lessard, Nicholas Murphy and honorary pallbearer Robert Murphy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge, his doctors and friends.
Walt gave his heart and time to many organizations and fundraisers in the community. He loved and touched so many people’s lives. He loved his babies, friends and firemen.
