Walter Webb Perdue Sr.

Born on March 3, 1930, in Prairieville to Lawrence Emerson Perdue and Eva Webb Perdue, Walter was the youngest of four children. He grew up deeply loved in a household grounded in family, faith, and hard work. Throughout his long life, he embodied these values and

worked every day to instill them in his four children, as well as in his many grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and great‑great‑grandchildren.

A devoted husband and beloved father, Walter served his country in the Louisiana National Guard. In addition to operating the family store on Airline Highway for many years, Walter worked for Coca‑Cola and later served the community as a school bus driver for the Ascension Parish School Board.

Faith played a central role throughout Walter’s life. He was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, a congregation significantly shaped by his grandparents, Hillard and Victoria Webb, who were among its early benefactors and co‑founders. Walter was their last surviving grandchild.

He found joy in simple pleasures—fishing, raising strawberries, picking figs, going to bluegrass festivals, and most of all, spending time with the family he cherished. Walter is preceded in death by his parents; his great‑grandchild, Isaac Bourque; his devoted wife of 60 years, Ruth Templet Perdue; her sisters and brothers‑in‑law; his sister, Pansy Perdue, his brother, Emerson Lawrence Perdue; his sister‑in‑law, Agnes Perdue; his sister, Hazel Perdue Jones; and his brother‑in‑law, Lester Jones.

He is survived by his daughter, Pansy Perdue Bourque, and son‑in‑law, Daryl Bourque; his son, Walter Perdue Jr.; his son, Timothy Perdue, and daughter‑in‑law, Rhonda Savell Perdue; his daughter, Amanda Perdue Bourgeois, and son‑in‑law, Eric Bourgeois. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and great‑great‑grandchildren spread across the parish, the state, and the country.

Family and friends will gather to honor Walter’s life on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Hwy, Gonzales, LA 70737. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM with a service to follow at 4:00 PM. A Graveside Service will take place the following day, Monday, March 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 17450 Old Jefferson Hwy, Prairieville, LA 70769.
