Charles was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country honorably during the Korean War. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 30 years of work as the supervisor of the print shop for the State of Tennessee Legislature. In addition, Charles devoted over 70 years to preaching the Gospel of Christ, touching countless lives through his steadfast faith, compassionate spirit, and unwavering commitment to sharing God’s word.
In retirement, he enjoyed working for several years on the General Jackson at Opryland, managing the merchandise in the gift shop.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra, whom he cherished deeply, and by his youngest child, Kimberly. He is survived by his two other daughters, Deb Cassetty and Sharon Moody, and his son, Tim Hicks; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of his life.
Affectionately known as “Peanut” by his aunts, uncles, and cousins, Charles carried that nickname with a smile throughout his life. He loved traveling with Sandra on his Honda Gold Wing, embracing the open road and the adventure it promised. In retirement, he especially enjoyed trips to Branson, Missouri with Sandra. He also had a well-known love for Buc-ee’s — and no matter how many times he had visited before, he would stop at every Buc-ee’s he passed. It wasn’t just about the snacks or the souvenirs; it was about the joy of the stop itself, something his family came to expect and smile about on every trip.
A man who treasured time with family, Charles loved playing games—especially card games—and spent nearly every Sunday afternoon gathered around the table playing cards with family at Deb’s house after church. Those afternoons were filled with laughter, storytelling, friendly competition, and the kind of fellowship that defined his life.
Charles Hicks will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful preacher, proud veteran, and a man whose life reflected service, joy, humor, and enduring faith. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
