Everett Leroy Cook

Everett Leroy Cook, age 97, of Madison, TN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022. He was born October 3, 1924 in Cardington, Ohio to the late Vinal Dell and Irma (Willey) Cook. He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Geraldine, sister Evelyn Brooker of Marysville, OH, and three brothers, Carl Cook of Columbus, OH, Kenneth Cook of Cardington, OH, and Lloyd Cook of Galion, OH; daughter Carolyn Riggs of Gallatin, TN, and son Steven Cook of Hendersonville, TN.

He is survived by daughter, Constance (Kenneth) of Eads, TN; grandchildren Rachel (Bradley) Hopper of Collierville, TN; Justin (Morgan) Cook of Hendersonville, TN; great-granddaughter Ava Hopper, great-grandson Preston Cook, great-granddaughter Parker Cook, along with several nieces, nephews and many great friends.

Everett left the farm life for a job with HPM Hydraulics in Ohio, then, in 1961 moved the family to Nashville, TN for a job with Archway Bakery, then AVCO, and finally retired from Oscar Meyer.

Everett was considered a master mechanic by friends and family for many items, especially automobiles, lawn mowers and yard equipment. Additionally, he built many cabinets, tree houses, bridges, yard swings, and other items too numerous to list.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he loved playing cards with his friends Stu and Donna and spent many hours working jigsaw puzzles. He was an avid Vanderbilt football fan. Up until the end, he prided himself in maintaining his own home and yard and drove himself about the city.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday, February 18 and 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Saturday, February 19. Funeral services will be immediately following at 12:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1150 Dickerson Pike, Goodlettsville, TN. The Reverend Jerry Lee Brooker will officiate and burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of choice.
