

Leonard Wilson Jakes was embraced by the arms of his Lord Jesus Christ and welcomed to his heavenly home on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the age of 87. Born in Cheatham County, TN on Thursday, March 12, 1925, he is preceded in death by his parents John Mitchell and Dovie Mae Edwards Jakes. He was a WWII veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart and member of Goodlettsville Church of The Nazarene.
He was one of 12 children of which he is now survived by only 2, his brother Ellis Jakes and sister Kathryn Jakes Stamps. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Adamson Jakes, their six children, Vicki (Mike) Elliott, Gary (Vicki ) Jakes, Mitchell Jakes, Alan (Sherrie) Jakes, Kenneth (Deena) Jakes and Sherri Jakes Wellborn. He was affectionately called “And-Dad” by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Sunday, July 22 from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. and Monday, July 23 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Daryl Blank and Rev. Bob Madison of the Goodlettsville Church of The Nazarene, and Rev. Gary Jacks of the First Church of The Nazarene, Bluefield, WV. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
