

Robert “Bob” Eugene Cummings, age 86, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at The Carriages of Rivergate assisted living. Bob was born on October 25, 1938, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Eugene “Floyd” and Juanita Cummings.
Bob proudly served in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1958. He was a paratrooper with the elite 101st Airborne Division stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, until his honorable discharge in 1961. His military service was a source of great pride and helped shape his enduring sense of duty and discipline.
After his time in the Army, Bob became a police officer in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he served the community with dedication and integrity. He was a familiar face at University of Michigan football games, deepening his lifelong devotion to the Wolverines.
Bob worked for 31 years at General Motors/Saturn as a machinist and machine repairman, retiring in 2001. He was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and quiet reliability.
A proud member of the Masonic Lodge, Bob's commitment to service extended beyond his family and profession. He was also a Shriner, known for his generosity and dedication to helping others, particularly children in need.
In June 1989, Bob married Marsha Denton, a native of Tennessee. Together, they shared 36 years of love, partnership, and adventure. The couple traveled the world, enjoying scuba diving trips in the Caribbean and exploring destinations such as Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. Bob and Marsha were also active members of Bellshire United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene “Floyd” and Juanita Cummings, and his sister, Barbara Teal. He is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Cummings; children Doug (Jennifer) Cummings, Michael Cummings, and Christopher Key; and grandchildren Morgan and Connor Cummings.
A funeral service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a service at 2:00 PM. Bob will be laid to rest at Arbor Crest Cemetery in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Friday, October 10, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers foundation in Bob’s memory.
