Vincent Anthony Butera, age 87, of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Vincent was born Wednesday, February 24, 1937 in Bayonne, NJ. He later resided in Cranford, NJ, for 16 years, before moving to Hendersonville, TN, where he resided for the past 42 years.
Vincent joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1960 for six months and was on call to active duty for five years. He attended evening college at St. Peter's University from 1960 to 1965, earning his B.S. degree. The major part of his working career was as a controller at Ingersoll Rand in NJ before it moved one of its divisions to White House, TN. His second controller position was at Reemay, Inc., in Old Hickory, TN.
When there was anything to be fixed or improved, Vince (which he preferred to be called) found a way. He once moved large slabs of slate, single-handedly, to his backyard in Cranford, NJ, to create a "forever" patio. He slid the large slates down from his vehicle and rolled them on logs to his backyard. He lived with purpose and died with purpose as he attended to all matters that were important to him -- his workplace, his home, and, especially, his family. Vince moved to his final home in Hendersonville, TN, 42 years ago. He continued to attend to all matters of importance with love.
Vince was predeceased by his parents, Vincent James Butera and Rose Bernardo Butera and his sister, Mildred Butera Bartolomeo. Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Callas Butera; his children, Vincent Butera, Elizabeth Butera, Lynda Butera, James Butera and his wife Loretta Savely Butera, and David Butera who all reside in TN except for Elizabeth who resides in NJ. Also, surviving are his grandchildren: Tess Butera Llanos and John Llanos and Jessie Butera who reside in CA; Anthony Butera, Lauren Butera, Michael Butera and Imagine McCollum Butera and their son, Elliot, his first great-grandchild - Jim and Loretta's children all reside in Tennessee and Matthew Butera, son of Lynda Butera, also resides in TN. Vince is also survived by his sister, Ann Magarelli Arrigo who resides in Arizona and his brother, Charles Butera and his wife Karen Butera who reside in FL.
