Early home life, schooling, etc -
Bruce was the second of 4 boys. He grew up in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. He attended Byford and Hay Elementary Schools and graduated from Austin HS in January of 1967. Bruce was drafted in to the United States Army (although he always said he would have joined anyhow and would have picked the Air Force}. He was a Vietnam era Veteran. When he was finished in the Army, he worked at Dun & Bradstreet in Chicago, where he met his wife, Nicky. They were married in 1972 and had celebrated 53 years in August 2025. While starting a family, Bruce also pursued a degree in Computer Science at Northeastern University. Bruce and Nicky had 4 children and raised them in Mundelein, IL. Bruce watched his kids play countless soccer games as well as attended band concerts, dance recitals, baseball games, water polo and swimming meets. He did this even when they were adults and playing all sorts of sports. Early on, if a league didn't have a coach, he did it. If they needed referee's - he got trained so the league could run all of the kids games. Bruce was a sports fan. He got to see those Cubs win a World Series in his lifetime. He had been a Bears Season ticket holder as long as he was married. He even attended the Super Bowl for the famous 1985 Bears in New Orleans LA. That was one of his favorite places to go - through work he attended a few conferences there and took his Wife to enjoy the scenery and food.
He kept friends from Elementary school and his old neighborhood as well as his Lawson work friends. He took many trips to fish in Canada, hunting and camping in Wisconsin. He even played Chicago 16inch softball with this crew of fellas.
In recent years, Bruce started traveling to the grandkids soccer, track, volleyball, flag football, marching band and band concerts. Some of the schools back in Illinois had even streamed the events so he could watch from Arizona.
Bruce enjoyed traveling with family and visiting family. He loved seeing the National Parks out West when he relocated to Arizona. He got to attend many Cubs Spring Training games as well as some great concerts of his favorite bands (The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, and even Willie Nelson a few times).
Bruce had been dealing with an undiagnosed movement disorder, similar to Parkinson's since late 2019 and as of late, it had been progressing quickly. In recent weeks, a good day for Bruce was a quick car ride to get his favorite cup of coffee. His coffee always ranked as high as his wife, kids, grandkids, and sports.
