It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we celebrate the life of David Patrick O’Brien, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, who passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on 5/5/2025 at the age of 76. Though he has left this earthly home, his legacy of love, grace, and unwavering faith will live on in the countless lives he touched.
A gentle man in every sense of the word, David carried a heart of gold. He extended kindness to all—never quick to judge, always ready to forgive, and forever patient. His grace was a quiet strength that lifted others, making every room he entered a little warmer, a little softer, and a little more filled with hope.
A man slow to speak but quick to listen, David never met a stranger. He saw the image of God in every person, welcoming them with compassion and an open heart. His forgiveness knew no bounds, and his life was a living sermon of grace in action.
David was also a devoted teacher of Christ to all. Through his words, his actions, and his quiet witness, he pointed countless souls to the love of Jesus. He taught not only from Scripture, but through the example of his own life—showing what it meant to walk humbly and love deeply. Whether in church, at home, or in everyday conversations, he poured truth and grace into everyone he encountered, planting seeds of faith that will continue to grow for generations.
Above all, David was a prayer warrior beyond belief. His faith was not just something he practiced—it was the very air he breathed. Day and night, he carried others in prayer, interceding faithfully with a conviction that moved mountains. Many will testify to the various mercies that came through his petitions, and to the peace they felt knowing he was standing in the gap for them.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara O’Brien, his son, Erik O’Brien (wife – Andrea O’Brien), his daughter, Kirstin Conlon (husband – Ken Conlon), his step sons, Ryan & Ken Frye, as well as eleven beloved grandchildren, friends and loved ones who will carry his memory forward. He has now joined his father, Leigh O’Brien, his mother, Maureen (Granna) O’Brien, his brother Sean O’Brien, and his daughter-in-law, Kirstin Moss-Frye in the eternal embrace of our Savior.
Though we mourn, we do not grieve without hope. We know that David now stands face to face with the One he loved so deeply, Jesus Christ, hearing the words he longed for: “Well done my good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
A Celebration of Life for David will be held on Saturday, July 5 at 11:30 am at Calvary Chapel, 125 S. Main Street, Bishop, California. A Graveside Service will follow at Bishop Cemetery at 1 pm.
