

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Ralph grew up in the inner city, where life was not always easy, but he faced challenges with grit, persistence and creativity.
From a young age, he showed resourcefulness—whether duct-taping magazines to his legs for hockey pads or finding ways to build and fix nearly anything with his hands.
After graduating from high school, Ralph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. A patriot, protector and veteran, he carried those values of service and discipline into all aspects of his life.
Ralph met the love of his life, Frances, when he was just 14 years old. Their marriage of more than 57 years was a testament to love, loyalty and partnership.
Together they built a family and a legacy of faith, laughter and devotion.
He was a man of many talents: an engineer, an artist, a tinkerer, a coach and a mentor to countless young people.
He had a gift for music, playing songs by ear and a passion for Detroit sports—cheering for the Lions, Wolverines, Tigers and Red Wings.
He also had an entrepreneurial spirit, running businesses that ranged from a restaurant and bar to a printing company in Livonia, Michigan.
Above all, Ralph was a family man. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren, always striving to give them a better life. He inspired his family with his wisdom, persistence, sense of humor and unwavering love.
Even through his long battle with stage four cancer, Ralph fought courageously with strength, dignity and grace, never losing his concern for the well-being of those he loved most.
Ralph is survived by his children Dan (Tee) Kuschell and Sherri (Douglas) Bassett, his grandchildren Kira and Kyler and his extended family and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances, his mother and father, his grandmothers and his sister Linda.
He will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor and friend. His simple yet profound lessons, stubborn determination and loving spirit will live on through all those he influenced.
Visitation will be on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10:00 AM, with his funeral service to follow at 11 AM. at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Ave. Goodyear, AZ.
Private interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
Ralph Kuschell lived, loved, and left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
