

DET. SALVADOR (Sal) Garcia (Ret), 79, of Phoenix died peacefully on September 12, 2025. Sal was born July 13, 1946 in Phoenix to Salvador and Esperanza Garcia. As a teenager, he attended Agua Fria Highschool where he was an excellent athlete. After graduating he chose service to country, joining the United States Army in September of 1966. During his years of service he earned the National Defense Service Medal and distinction as a Sharpshooter (rifle) and studied at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. After completing his contract Sal received an honorable discharge in August of 1969. In June of 1970 he earned the opportunity to recite the Oath of Officer with the Phoenix Police Department where he served faithfully until 2007, retiring as a Detective. In addition, Sal was elected and served as President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Phoenix Lodge #2. Sal's love for cowboy movies, the Sun Devils and the Cardinals was only surpassed by his faith and love for his family and country.
He is survived by wife Marcia Garcia. Sons: Pablo (Dawn) Suarez and Robert Suarez. Daughters: Renee (John) Fontes and Bernadette (Travis) Witt. Grandchildren: Elijah, Chloe and Claire Suarez, Johny (Tiffany), Jesse,and Jacob Fontes, Nicolette Witt, Jazmine ((Tanner) Johnson, Hailey Kesler. Great-grandchildren: Jay and Joey Fontes,Tania Hubbard, Penelope Johnson.Off
Sal is also survived by a sister Margie Morales and many, many cousins, nephews and nieces.
He is processed in death by his parents Salvavor and Esperanza, and sisters Polly Garcia and Brijida Maldonado.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00 pm, on Monday October 27th, 2025, at Eric's Family Restaurant, 12345 W Indian School Road, Avondale. His ashes will be scattered in Hawaii at a later date.
The family suggests that donations be made to PBS.
