Theresa Alone Goins

Theresa Flynn was born on March 10, 1945 to the late Alonzo and Theresa Flynnn. Theresa was the 7th of 8 children. Her 6 siblings that preceded her in death are Roland, Jewel, Robinson, Bartholomew, Enola and Ramona,

Early Childhood

Theresa was raised in the Chicago Cabrini Green Projects and attended Wells High School. She confessed and accepted Christ at an early age. Theresa was affectionately loved due to her beautiful smile and wonderful personality. She was an avid cook even in her early years.

Marriage, Children and Work Life

Theresa met and married the Late Lafayette Goins Jr. on March 15, 1961 and to this union two children were born, the Late Lafayette Goins the III(Laura) and Robin Johnson (Rouche). Theresa worked at the Sara Lee Bakery for 26 years until she retired in 2002. Later in life at age 51, she adopted two bonus children at birth. Her grandson David Goins and later in 1996 Stephanie Goins.(Betty Davis) Tragically she lost another grandson Edward Goins in 2015. Theresa was also pivotal in raising her eldest Grandson the Late Lafayette Montgomery IV(Linda Montgomery).

Although Theresa professed acceptance of Christ at an early age, she was baptized on November 13, 2005 under the direction of Salem’s House of Hope Pastor James Meeks of Chicago, IL Theresa moved to Arizona to be with her daughter Robin and Son in Law Rouche in 2012, after the death of her husband Lafayette Goins Jr. Theresa was known to smother her family with love through wisdom, attention, love and her cooking. Not only was she pivotal in raising and mentoring her children, she helped shape the face of all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Theresa loved cooking and playing spades, an old tradition that was passed down from generation to generation. It was very important that she found the right church for herself and her children and after eight years of searching she planted roots at the Legacy Christian Center under the direction of Pastor Drew Anderson and Co-Pastor Kenya Anderson in 2019 where she remained until God called her home. Theresa loved going to her Church, seeing and fellowshipping with her Church Family, she was affectionately called Grandma by everyone who came into contact with her. To know Theresa was to touch wisdom, love, and a warm authentic smile, it was love in action.

Theresa Leaves to Cherish her memories, Two daughters, Robin Johnson(Rouche) and Stephanie Goins of San Tan Valley, Arizona, One son/grandson David Goins of Phoenix Arizona, Two Grandchildren Tashe Porter(Johnnie Bryant) of Chicago, IL and Rouche Goins(Tracey Goins). Eight Great-Grandchildren Jakobe Howery(Bria), Ladarius Jackson, Da’Maria Goins, Lafaye Montgomery of Chicago, IL, Da’Marion Goins, Markquez Porter, Davion Goins and Jeniya Montgomery. Three Great-Great Grandchildren Twins Ryan and Riley Montgomery and Jamari Howery. One Sister and Brother Willoughby Ewing of Florida and Alonzo Flynn(Deborah) of Georgia. Three Brother in Laws Rev. Leonard Goins(Verna), Cornielius Goins and David Goins, Three Sister in Laws Joy Ann Goins, Willa Tate and Gwendolyn Spencer all of Chicago, IL. A loving Church Family at Legacy Christian Center. A host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and very special Friends. Her Spirit, wisdom, and love will live in our hearts forever

ORDER OF SERVICE

A visitation will take place at Legacy Christian Center, 1050 E Baseline Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85042 on February 1st, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Followed by a Service starting at 11:00 am.

Theresa will be laid to rest at Valley of the Sun Cemetery, 0940 E Chandler Heights Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248 at 2:00 pm.
