Affectionately known as "Addie," she was born July 15, 1930 in Tonawanda, New York, to parents Edith Stumpf Nowark and Charles F. Nowark, Jr. She had two sisters, Gladys and Carol, who predeceased her, and with whom she shared a lifelong connection, even as they lived in different states.
Adele married her high school sweetheart Donald Lawrence Dunn, in 1948 and subsequently they moved their family in 1961 from North Tonawanda, New York, to Orlando, Florida. They divorced after 20+ years but remained friends, playing card games at least once a week over the past several years.
She was a steadfast and devoted mother to her children, Donald Jr. (who died in infancy), Diane Morris (Ronald), Robin Raymond (Sonny), Melinda Bledsoe (Michael), Lori Wainwright (who died in May 2024) (Michael), and Michael Dunn (Kathy).
Adele is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who mourn her passing and remember her with abiding love and affection.
She was a member of several churches in the Orlando area and loved serving in the children’s ministry in each. She had a successful career at CNA Insurance until her retirement in 1995.
Adele was the matriarch of the Dunn family and an independent person, known for her skills as a handywoman who maintained her home, inside and out, on her own for many years. She welcomed her family there for frequent gatherings, where everyone played cards and board games and enjoyed Adele’s infectious laugh and hobby of rollerblading around her neighborhood.
For the past 20 years she lived with her youngest daughter, Lori, and her family in the Lake Nona area. She enjoyed looking after her youngest grandchildren at every opportunity. Adele’s family could always count on a thoughtful greeting card in the mail for every birthday and holiday, as well as a box of homemade Christmas cookies and a calendar each Winter. She was disciplined in her daily walks and most importantly, her Christian faith and Bible study, which were the foundations of her routine to the very last days of her life.
Her family hopes that all those who loved Adele will cherish her memory in their hearts forever.
A memorial service in honor of Adele will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on August 31, 2024, and her ashes will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Gotha, Florida.
