

Betty Jane Johnson O’Neal, age 86, of Apopka, passed away peacefully in her home on October 27 with her beloved family by her side. Betty was born November 17, 1927 in Charleston, South Carolina and moved with her family to Orlando, Florida after her father’s retirement from the Charleston Navy Yard. She graduated from Orlando High School in 1945 and went on to begin a 35 year long career at Holler Chevrolet.
Betty loved to travel, and enjoyed vacationing in places including Hawaii, Alaska, and the United Kingdom. She had a passion for playing cards at home and in casinos with family and friends, and frequently traveled to Biloxi, Tunica, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City.
Betty O’Neal is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” O’Neal; father, Irvin Johnson; mother, Catherine Jane Bush Johnson; stepmother, Annie Maude Bush Johnson; brothers Edward Irvin “Pete” Johnson, George Phillip “Paul” Johnson, and James Kenneth “Jimmy” Johnson.
She is survived by her three sisters Lucy Ann Bouchard, Sylvia Fulmer, and Gwyneth Beatrice Stewart; her daughter, Barbara Jean O’Neal Meyers; son, Robert Irvin O’Neal; grandchildren John Columbus Giddens III, Elizabeth Jane Dalba, James Robert O’Neal, and Robyn Ann O’Neal Berry, as well as 9 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 31, at Woodlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery: 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road Gotha, FL 34734. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Cornerstone Hospice: 2445 Lane Park Road Tavares, FL 32778.
There will be a small gathering for family and friends immediately following the service at Barbara’s house from 4:00 – 6:00 PM.
