With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Brenda Glendolyn Duncan, who departed this life on January 14, 2025, at the age of 71. Brenda was a beloved sister, aunt, friend, and mentor whose warmth and kindness left an indelible impression on all who knew her. She touched countless lives with her grace, compassion, and dedication to family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure in the hearts of many.
Born on August 3, 1953, in Trinidad and Tobago, Brenda was the cherished daughter of George Alston Duncan and Thelma Sandy Duncan. From a young age, she displayed an unrelenting curiosity and love for learning, which became the foundation of her remarkable life. Brenda attended Arouca EC School, where she excelled academically and earned a scholarship to the prestigious Bishop Anstey High School. Her journey continued at Mausica Teachers’ College, and she later pursued a degree in education at The University of the West Indies – St. Augustine Campus, solidifying her lifelong commitment to teaching and learning.
Brenda began her teaching career at Barataria Anglican School, dedicating herself to inspiring and educating young minds. Circa 1995, she embarked on a new chapter, moving to the United States to further her studies, where she earned two master’s degrees from Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY. Originally intending a temporary stay, she spent nearly 30 years in the U.S., working as an educator specializing in English as a Second Language (ESL). Brenda’s colleagues and students alike admired her integrity, creativity, and her unwavering dedication to fostering growth and success in her students.
Brenda’s life was enriched not only by her professional accomplishments, but also by her deep love for family, nature, and community. She found serenity in the ocean and swimming in her pool, joy in gardening, and happiness in gathering loved ones for celebrations. An avid reader, Brenda was passionate about lifelong learning and giving back, supporting charities dedicated to children’s welfare and fostering a spirit of generosity among those she cared for. Her infectious laughter, love of games like Scrabble and Dominos, and ability to create warm, welcoming spaces will forever be remembered.
Brenda is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Joy, Dennis, Miriam, Oscar, Wendy, Keith, Curtis, and Neal; her nieces and nephews: Louanne, Dylan, Jeneil, Denise, Nicholas, Nicole, Nigel, Noel, Keynon, Kellie Anne, Levi, Jenna, Niall, Calissia, Eric, Alondra, Brandon, Crystal, Daveneal, Darnel, and Darcel; and her many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
