

Carl Ray Winstead went to be with Jesus early Friday morning, March 20, 2015. He was born on September 11, 1930 in Hammon, Oklahoma to Rev. J.E. Winstead and Mary M. Greene Winstead. The family moved to Florida in the 1940s where he met and married Doris J. Butts, on December 19, 1948. Before retirement, Carl worked as a linotype operator for several newspapers including The Cordele Dispatch and The Orlando Sentinel. Though a childhood disease left him with much pain and discomfort throughout his life, Carl wasn’t a complainer and enjoyed life and family as much as his physical limitations would allow. Carl is survived by his son, Jim “Smokey” Winstead and wife, Linda of Manassas, VA; and son, Rev. Tommy Winstead and wife Ruth of Fredericksburg, VA; also by four grandchildren, Carson Winstead of Manassas, VA. Mary Ellen Winstead of Atlanta, GA, Bentley and Darius Winstead both of Fredericksburg, VA, Carl is also survived by his brother, Edward Winstead, of Houston, TX. Carl was predeceased by both parents and also his beloved wife just three months ago in November 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Abundant Life Assembly of God Missions, 200 Onville Road Stafford, VA. 22556-3809. Visitation will be held on Friday March 27, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00am with a service to follow at 11:00am in ~The Grove~ at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road Gotha, Florida 34734.
