He was born on April 6th, 1954 in Orlando, Florida at Florida Hospital, second of 3 children and grew up in Winter Park, Florida. Curtis attended Killarney Elementary School followed by Robert E. Lee Jr. High School, where he met his wife Bitsy in the 8th grade. He went on to Edgewater High School where he played 3 years Varsity Football, and graduated class of ‘72. Then attended his first year of college, played football at Carson Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, and his next 3 years of college were at University of Central Florida.
Curtis and Bitsy were married on November 4th, 1978 at Leu Gardens in Orlando, Florida. They moved to Ormond Beach, Florida where Curtis worked for EGP. In 1984 he started his own business, CBS, Inc (Connectivity Business Systems, Inc) in Titusville, Florida. They moved back to Orlando, Florida in 1985, where they raised their 4 children in College Park. He sold his business in 2012 to North American Office Solutions and worked for them until January 2016.
He had a great love for the peaceful Smoky Mountains and his desire was always to extend that same peace to others through his cabin. His vision was to someday live there and open up his home to those who needed healing and rest and make them a great breakfast. His final wish was to be cremated and to have his ashes be scattered in “mom’s wildflower garden”, off the Mitchell’s porch onto their “stinkin’ view”, and off of Look Rock because it’s illegal.
He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara JoAnn Dupree and his father Ernest Hoover Dupree. He is survived by his wife Bitsy (Beverly Owen Dupree) of Orlando, Florida; daughter Kendall Dupree Volkman and her husband Albert of Maitland, Florida; son Curtis Dale Dupree, Jr. and his wife Channa of Winter Park, Florida; son William Owen Dupree and his wife Melissa of Winter Park, Florida; daughter Merry Glee Ragen and her husband Ryan of Winter Park, Florida; grandchildren Alex, Becca Jo, Owen, Merry Beth, Jack and “to be announced”; sister Karen Winans and her husband Kevin; and brother Doug Dupree and his wife Julie.
He was so beloved by everyone who knew him. His life was an example of Christ and evident in everything he did. He was the best Husband, Father, and Dandy to his family. Lives were changed because of him and our lives are changed again because he is gone from our sight. We know you’re saving us a spot in Heaven. Until then we’ll meet you in our prayers and dreams.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on Friday, April 22nd at 10:30 AM at Metro Life Church in Casselberry, Florida, with arrangements provided by Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Gotha, Florida.
