David Byrd, age 88, of Lake Mary, Florida passed away on March 9, 2024. He was born in Tabor City, North Carolina to Theodore and Margaret Byrd. David is survived by his sister and caregiver, Ann Louise Bridgman. His living relatives include 2 nieces, 5 nephews and their families.
David had a wonderful passion for being outdoors. He loves to fish and ride his bicycle. Every chance he got he traveled with his sister and families.
Dave also loved a variety of music including older songs from country, rock ‘n roll, and gospel. But he had a special liking for the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley. Dave took pride in being born the same year as Elvis and he never let us forget they were the same age. Dave would sit for hours strumming his acoustic guitar and singing the lyrics of Elvis’ songs like “Love Me Tender”. While his repertoire was limited, his enthusiasm was abundant and infectious. When we took Dave to listen to a band, he couldn’t help moving his feet to the beat of the music and always wanted to dance. We know he is singing and dancing now in heaven. A man that good will be leading the angelic choir.
David’s enthusiasm for life was reflected in his daily life as he was always willing to help someone else. Give him a task and he tackled it with glee. He was known for his use of a broom or a vacuum cleaner. There were no dirty floors when David was around. His favorite outdoor tool was a lawn mower. He might have missed a spot here and there but he eventually got it.
Anyone who was lucky enough to know David fell in love with his sweet disposition, love of animals, cooperative attitude, and kindness towards everyone. If we asked how he was feeling, he’d likely reply, “I’ll
be okay”. Then immediately thereafter, he’d ask how someone else was doing. There was no selfishness in his demeanor.
As David’s family, we realize how blessed we’ve been to have him in our lives. Dave taught us how to be loving, kind, respectful, unselfish, and honest. We will greatly miss Dave in our daily lives, but we are happy knowing his eternal spirit is now celebrating with God. We are assured that Dave is smiling and singing praise to the Lord.
Fond memories and kind condolences may be shared with the Byrd family in the online guest book below.
