Wow.  It has been a minute.  Seems like yesterday Doris and I were neighbors talking about our pasts, presents, and futures.  Doris was a smart, beautiful and classy lady.  What a dear friend to many.  Such fond memories - I miss her!

Seems like just yesterday Doris and I had such interesting and fun conversations.  What a brilliant light she was - and so beautiful.  What a blessing to know this gentle (and strong) soul

I miss my sister, Doris.  As a baby sister of the family I miss her company in many ways.  It may be a reunion, talking on the phone and many other ways in .her presence.   As on this earth where suffering happens  Doris had them, and now she is free of the endless pains she suffered.  I miss her but I know she is in better place.

I shall miss Doris, my neighbor, of almost 30 years.  She was a pistol – you always knew where you stood and what she stood for.  I would go over sometimes and share a glass or two of wine with her and talk of “cabbages and kings, and other things”.  Doris had a phenomenal memory of events and happenings as well as being totally up to date with the day.  She shall be missed, but never forgotten.

If the goal in life is to achieve a life well lived,  then my sister
Doris Cook succeeded.      Although confronted with joys
and sorrows,  she accepted both with grace.    She was devoted
to   her family.   She  was special.

Doris Cook was a woman of striking beauty and style whose fun-loving spirit infected everyone around her.  She was generous with her smile, thoughts, opinions, ideas, feelings, and money. But it is her laughter that I most remember. It was sometimes a giggle, snicker or guffaw but mostly it was a bubbling stream of happiness. That laugh could provide relief from the darkest moments and Doris shared laughter graciously and judiciously. She could laugh at herself, the strangeness of the world and the lamest of jokes from those she loved. She could lighten your world with that laugh for you always knew it was really her way of loving life and you. Her laughter broke through the terrible ordeals and pain she faced as she used it to stare down her demons. And she used it to strengthen those around her, including me, her niece.  

I can still hear her laughter helping us all handle the loss of such a marvelous woman.

Doris was my neighbor for many years until I moved and she remained a very dear friend after that.   She was  as funny as could be and one of the strongest women I have known. She never complained, at least not to me, and always asked after my family and friends.   We solved all the world’s problems- she was on top of things and smart as a whip. 
My favorite story is when she dressed as “I Dream of Genie” and won first prize.   Doris was one “classy broad” and will be greatly missed. 

Also, when I visited Mom and Dad in Fla. I prepared a dessert that is popular here in Atlanta, Ga.   Doris and Elmer were coming to share with us the meal.  Doris is always up to date on everything but not this dessert.  I had prepared a lined clay pot filled with crushed oreo cookies (similar to dirt) and chocolate pudding, and gummy worms.  Her eyes opened wide when she saw I was dishing into the "dirt" for servings.   When I told her what it was she enjoyed the taste.  I'll never forget her surprised look.

Doris Cook was my sister.     One of my favorite memories of Doris
happened when she was 9 years old and I was 3.   We had a new
baby sister.     One evening, our parents went out, leaving Doris  to
baby sit me  and our anew baby sister.      During our parents absence,
Doris was to give the new baby a bottle  .    Not happy with having
Dodris substituting for our parents, I began to bawl.     And that's when Doris took charge.  She said "if you don't shut up, I'm going to
stick this bottle in your mouth" .  It worked - no more crying.
