Douglas Eugene Crank, a man defined by his unwavering integrity, quiet strength, loyalty and profound devotion to his family, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service and love. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, to Rev. Ola Charles and Edna Hazel Crank. Doug’s early life was rooted in faith.
As a young man, he traveled the country alongside his father and brother, helping set up revival tents, organizing and coordinating each gathering, and standing watch over the piano at night to keep it safe, all while supporting their ministry as they shared the good news of salvation during their travels as evangelists.
A natural athlete and nicknamed the "workhorse" on the football field, Doug’s character was forged in the heat of competition at Forest Park High School where he was selected as a member of the All-State High School Football Team. Though his talent earned him numerous collegiate scholarships, Doug chose a path of selfless service, enlisting in the United States Coast Guard where he earned the Good Conduct Medal as well as the Expert Pistol Shot Medal. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Basketball and Softball Teams. Following eight years of military service, Doug attended Commercial Art School and joined the City of Orlando Fire Department, where he served from 1959 until retiring as a Lieutenant in 1983. He was also a member of the OFD's softball team.
At the heart of Doug’s life was a seventy-year love story. He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Sellars, on February 16, 1956. Together, they built a life rooted in commitment, love and service. Doug was a devoted father to his daughters and later became the ultimate "Granddaddy" and "Great-Granddaddy." Whether it was a sports game, a school play, or a competition, Doug was always in the front row, his presence a constant reminder of his pride and love.
In his later years, Doug and Jackie traveled extensively, visiting eight European countries and much of the United States, and found great joy in time spent with family and friends. An avid outdoorsman, Doug found great peace in nature; he loved to fish and hunt, but his greatest joy was always found in the time spent with his family.
Doug found peace on the water in Edgewater, Florida, and later in Clermont, Florida. He and Jackie were devoted members of Open Door Baptist Church. Doug was deeply involved in the church, serving in many positions over the years to honor his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Doug served as an usher, Church Treasurer, a member of the Visitation Team and on the Church Finance Committee as Trustee. Throughout his entire life, Doug loved the Lord, his wife, and his family with all his heart. He was, in every sense, a good and faithful servant.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Jacqueline Sellars Crank; his daughters, Kimberly Weir (Walt) and Darla Friday (Robin); his cherished grandchildren, Robin Friday, Jr., Chad Friday, Dallas Friday, Kyle Reynolds, and Charly Reynolds; and his two great-grandchildren, Georgia Friday and Sean McLeod.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Ola Charles and Edna Hazel Crank; his siblings, Rev. Charles E. Crank, Marie Brommer, Eva Ellison, and Gloria Blankenship; and his beloved grandson, Jake Reynolds.
A Celebration of Life service will be held to honor Doug on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church of Orlando, 2200 S Orange Ave, Orlando, FL 32806.
