Eddie Travis lived 94 years and eight months full of life, love and adventures.
His life began on April 1, 1918, in the small town of Spickard, Mo. He was one of 10 children born to Bessie and Orville Travis. He lived a simple life of farming, until he joined the Navy in 1940. He is what some people call a jack-of-all-trades.
Eddie leaves behind three children, Debbie Travis, Wayne Travis (wife Debbie Anne) and KeithTravis (wife Pam); four grandchildren, Kelli Smith (husband Rob), Marie Delph (husband Zach), Jordan Lawson (husband Chuck) and Samuel Brandon Travis; and one great-grandson, Noah Lawson. He is survived by his sister, Beulah (Boots) Pennington.
Carrie Lee – the love of his life – preceded him to Heaven in 1993.
He was a picture of health until he was 92, when he had his very first surgery: a pacemaker. He recovered and went back to his normal life: golfing, playing bridge and attending Central Parkway Baptist Church whenever the doors were open.
At 93, he was diagnosed with incurable cancer. Despite doctors telling him he would only live a couple months (at best), he proved them wrong and lived well over a year. After suffering a stroke, he was told he would never walk again. For those who knew Eddie, he was full of determination (with hints of stubbornness). And as you may have guessed, he did indeed walk again.
On December 19, 2012, as Eddie slept, he peacefully drifted into eternity. Eddie was loved as much as any one person could be. Always surrounded by family – even in death.
He will be missed terribly.
Funeral service will be on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Gotha, FL at 2:00 PM. Those desiring to make contributions may be made to Fisher House (for wounded warriors) www.fisherhouse.com.
