

Gerald joined the United States Army National Guard in Kansas at the age of 15 and was a World War 2 veteran of the 35th Division of the 3rd Army and with the 35th Quartermaster Company Special Troops. After suffering head wounds in the European Theater in France he received the Purple Heart in 1944 and then returned to duty at the front. He was discharged at the end of the war as a Sergeant. After the war he joined the National Guard in Long Beach, California where he became a Commanding Officer and later retired as a Lt. Colonel. During his military service he received several medals and commendations.
Gerald was married to Catherine O’Regan in 1943 at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa in San Luis Obispo, California and had nine children.
He worked in the power transmission and bearings industry for many years and retired from Miller Bearings of Orlando, Florida. After retirement he served as a security officer and ended his career as a Parking Enforcement Unit Supervisor for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Orlando, Florida.
He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church of Orlando, Florida. He loved working, playing golf and most of all loved his country. His proudest moments were while he was serving his country as a soldier in the United States Army.
He was preceded by his wonderful loving wives Catherine O’Regan, Gertrude Shay and Kathleen Moore.
He was a loving father and was survived by his children Patricia Tanner (Wayne), David Brotherton (Sue), Barbara Lingle (Ron), Marguerita Hallmann (Randy), Rock Brotherton (Kathy), Christina McCoy-Rollins, Angela Milligan (Dan), Rex Brotherton (Tracy), Roderick Brotherton and survived by several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren whom he loved dearly. Gerald will be loved and missed by all his family.
Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
