Gloria Emilia Anadon was born in the city of Villalba, Puerto Rico on January 18, 1959. She is one of eight siblings that include 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Gloria was raised in the city of Ponce where she graduated from Juana Diaz High School. As Gloria was growing up, she found a talent for playing the saxophone.
In December of 1981 she met Carlos Mendez in Ponce. They soon fell in love and 6 months later they were married. With Carlos being in the Army, they moved to Fort Dix, New Jersey where their first son, Omar, was born in 1983. They then traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where their second son, Luis, was born in 1987. Two years later the family moved to Hilo, Hawaii where Carlos was stationed at Pohakuloa. In 1991, Fort Campbell Kentucky, was the last place the family was stationed before Carlos retired in 1998. During her time in Fort Campbell, Gloria was a caretaker for children with special needs. Gloria also took the time to learn Sign Language to better communicate with some of the children.
After Carlos’ retirement, they decided to move to Orlando as their kids expressed that they wanted to live near Disney since going there on previous vacations. While living in Orlando, Gloria started working for Publix and continued to do so for 10 years. People enjoyed seeing Gloria at Publix and so much so they would specifically ask for her. She was loved by many.
Through life, Gloria was blessed to see both of her sons get married and the pleasure of seeing birth of her first grandchild, Ezra Amos, in 2019. Gloria not only enjoyed taking care of her boys, but her doggies as well (Bridgette, Chispa, Divino, Ivy, Tego, Lola, and Lulu). She always talked about her dogs as if they were her children. The many things Gloria also loved was cooking for her family and friends, being a huge sports fanatic, especially her Philadelphia teams and the Orlando Magic, and loved looking her best no matter where she was going.
She is survived by her husband Carlos, her son Omar (wife Marianthy), her son Luis (wife Raquel) and grandson Ezra.
