Dayton-born on June 23rd, 1935, Harry lost his mother as an infant, and so was raised by his loving and faithful grandparents, William & Laura (Davis) Moon in Fairborn, Ohio. Fond memories of 4th of July carnivals in their charming town color the memories of his own children even now.
Harry served faithfully in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and inspired his son to do the same.
But, before those children came along, Harry found his bride, Mary Louise Woods, with whom he eloped on February 2, 1955 and made her a Moon. They have been married for 60 years!
In those 60 years, Harry stayed a 1950s kind of guy who enjoyed life to the fullest, would give you the shirt off his back, and told everybody else, “My way or the highway!” Harry loved to laugh, listen to old country music & follow NASCAR, especially Darrell Waltrip among others. He built up quite a collection of paraphernalia that his family reveres as the “Museum”.
They moved to Orlando in 1981, and Harry contributed again to his community as a strong county laborer for Orange County Parks & Recreation… continuing his legacy here.
Harry’s family will miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his young daughter, Helen;
and, is survived by his Beloved Wife, Mary; two sons, James (Debora) & Jeff; his daughter, Cynthia (Ken); and, 6 beautiful grandchildren, James, David, Danessa, Alina, Jennifer & Jessica.
A Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held Saturday, May 9th at 2:00pm, at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida. No ties needed! Immediately following will be a Committal ceremony at the mausoleum with Military Honors.
