Hortense Knowles

Our Beloved Hortense Knowles passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 after an extended battle with lung cancer at her son’s home in Atlanta, Ga. Hortense was a superior high school track star that met the love of her life as a pen pal and was married in Kingston Jamaica in August 1951 to Edmond Knowles. They were married for 62 1/2years until the time of his death last year. Hortense earned her bachelor’s degree from at Trenton State College and then continued on to earn a Masters degree in Nursing from Trenton State College. She later worked at Monmouth Medical Center where she earned the position of Head Nurse. She later moved to Orlando, Florida and taught nursing and health sciences. Later in life she became an actress with the Benz Model and Talent Agency and had numerous roles in commercials and print advertising. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Windermere where she along with her husband, Edmond lead the Bible Study Fellowship class for a number of years. She is survived by her sons Robert (wife Deborah) and Edmond; 2 brothers Alex Jacas and Simon Jacas; 3 grandsons; 1 granddaughter; 2 great grandsons, 3 cousins; 3 nieces and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:30pm-7:30 pm on Friday, February 6 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Rd., Gotha FL 34734. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday Feb. 7, at First Baptist Church of Windermere, 300 main St., Windermere, FL 34786. Burial will follow service at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
