James “Jim” Harrell Avera of Longwood, Florida passed away on his 64th birthday, December 1st, 2015. He was born in 1951 in Orlando to the late James and Darlene (Harrell) Avera. Also, his late grandfather Harrell Avera, grandmother Margaret Avera and stepfather Ben played an important part of his life. He was proud of his role as manager of multiple Mobile stations, and he personally owned International Linen Rental & Sales for 40 years.
Naturally a homebody, Jim loved his SciFi movies, building computers & food! He was known for his spaghetti, soups & especially his chili~
He went back to college late in life and got many certifications for computers. He was proud of his accomplishments. He was a compassionate man who shared 30 years with Thelma “Terri” Kuran and loved her family like his own. Joseph Sturla really knew no one but Jim as a father. Also he was the only grandfather his grandchildren Bradlee and Marlana Sturla ever had.Terri's grandson, Dean Lawson, moved in to help care for him and they all felt blessed for that.
Jim was always involved to help out any of Terri's other children if necessary... and their children... as well as anyone he knew that needed help.
He had a heart of gold.
He is also survived by three stepbrothers: Scott Avera, Rick Avera and Derrick Avera; sister Zane, and stepmom Ding.
There were some family issues that kept them apart at the end, but he will be missed by all of them, and all loved him.
Jillian Saunders also helped take care of him for a short period of time. He will be missed by all.
Jim lived his dream of owning a corvette and loved it. He fought a long battle with cancer and is now in peace and pain free.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 6th, 2015 at 2pm in their Founders Room, with a Graveside Service to follow at 3pm.
