James Randolph Patrick, age 100, was born at home on the Patrick Dairy Farm in Orlando on November 28, 1918 and was a lifelong resident. He was the 2nd of three sons, all of whom enlisted in the Army during World War II.
As a boy, he milked cows and delivered the milk to the local community. After graduating from Orlando High School, he delivered telegrams on bicycle for Western Union. As a young man, Jim competed as an amateur boxer in the Central Florida area. He worked for many years at the Orlando Utilities Commission as a turbine operator.
Jim loved horses and would ride regularly until he was in his late 70’s. He also enjoyed swimming at Rock Springs and reading his Bible, inspirational books and books about American Indian history. He loved animals; especially cats and they were often the subject matter for his photography hobby as a young man.
Although his later years were clouded by Alzheimer’s Disease, we celebrate that he is fully aware that he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Chipley and Daisy; his brothers, Bill and Clarence; and his wife of 51 years, Gwen. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy McBride and her husband Willie McBride of Orlando; and his grandson, Derek, of Orlando.
