Jean Harlow “Mimi” Pela died on December 24, 2020 at the age of 88. Mimi was a native of Victoria, Texas as was her beloved husband of sixty-four years, Edward Allen Pela, who predeceased her in 2014. Because of Ed’s long career with Dupont they lived in many wonderful places, but they remained ever proud of their Texas heritage. Jean and Ed were blessed with two daughters: Linda Christine Pela Kirven, who passed in 2010, and Teresa Jean Pela Wright. These two daughters blessed Jean and Ed with seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, one of whom predeceased Mimi on Christmas Eve three years ago.
Jean was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and deeply loved her personal savior Jesus Christ. She was the quintessential southern lady, beautiful in bearing and countenance, a heart full of grace and a never failing example of elegance, charm and good taste. She was adored by all who were privileged to spend time with her and be the benefactor of her hospitality, encouragement and positive attitude. She was always looking for ways to celebrate, finding opportunities to make even the every-day remarkable. As the matriarch of her beloved family her wisdom was frequently sought, and even when it wasn’t, her opinion on matters were made clear and heeded by all.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Florida on Tuesday December 29, 2020 at 12:30 pm. The family requests that memorial gifts be sent to the charity of one’s choice.
