He was born in Columbus, Georgia on February 4th, 1948 to the late Ira & Bonnie (Smith) Goodwin.
Jimmy served in the United States Army in Vietnam.
And, upon visiting the home of a brother and his wife one day, Jimmy met his beloved bride, Carolyn.
For Carolyn, it was love at first sight and they married on October 18th, 1975. They soon after moved to sunny Orlando in 1980, because Jimmy always wistfully said that he had “sand in his shoes”…
But, anybody who knew Jimmy knew he also had food on the stove, as he loved to cook anything & everything! When he wasn’t cooking he was cheering for his best teams, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Tampa Bucs; and, playing poker with good friends~
Jimmy retired his sales career from Florida Rock Industries; and, always delighted in his family. One would be hard-pressed to find a photograph of him without one of his granddaughters in his arms!
Jimmy Daniel Goodwin was preceded in death by his brothers, Ira “Bud” Goodwin, Jr., Jerry Goodwin and Randy Goodwin; and, his sisters, Dorothy Truitt, Edith Antee and Jean Nell.
He is survived by his dear wife, Carolyn; his daughters, Vicki Benitez (Louis), Amie Kerce (Josh) and Lisa Carlock (Craig); two sisters, Christine Kitchen (Glenn) and Patsy Pritchett (Bud); his adored granddaughters, Kayla McMullen and Jada Carlock, Erika and Katelyn Kerce, & Nicole and Daelynn Benitez; his loving mother-and-father-in-law, Russell and Marie Whetstone; several nieces & nephews, and many friends…
A Memorial Celebration of Jimmy’s Life will be held at 2pm on Saturday April 25th, 2015 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Gotha, Florida. Military Honors will be bestowed; and, all are invited for refreshments after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the Goodwin Family invites you to make a donation in Jimmy’s name to the charity of your choice; or, to Hospice of the Comforter should you so choose.
